Men and women make promises to themselves, to each other,
and to God, which they sometimes find difficult to keep. God
has made promises to us, which he has kept and will continue
to keep. The apostle Peter calls them "very great and
precious promises" (2 Peter 1:4). James says: "Blessed
is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has
stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God
has promised to those that love Him." (James 1:12).
Paul writing to Titus speaks of "
a faith and knowledge
resting on the hope of eternal life, which God, who does not
lie, promised before the beginning of time, and at His appointed
season he brought his word to light through the preaching
entrusted to me
." (Titus 1:2-3).
God who spoke first to Abraham (see Genesis 22:16-18; Hebrews
6:13-15) and then to all who were faithful, promises the salvation
of mankind, and eternal life for all who trust and obey Him.
