4. Priests in the age to come

God promised Israel that they would be "a kingdom of priests and an holy nation" (Exodus 19:6), but this promise to the nation was taken away from them because of their disobedience (see Matthew 21:43).

The promise was then extended individually to all who had faith in Jesus Christ, Jew or Gentile (1 Peter 2:4-10; Revelation 1:5-6). This promise will be fulfilled literally when Jesus returns to the earth. With Jesus to lead them the priests of the future age will have the glorious privilege of restoring the knowledge, worship and love of God throughout the world (see Zechariah ch.8; Micah 4:1-5; Hebrews ch.8).
