(1) Trust.
Faith is to have complete confidence in what you believe.
For example some people have 'faith' in a doctor to heal.
But in the Bible faith refers to the confidence we have that
God exists, and that what He has told us in the Bible is true,
and that He will do all that He has promised us. Faith is
initially God-given, but we must allow it to grow within us:
"There are different kinds of working, but the same God
works all of them in all men. Now to each one the manifestation
of the Spirit is given for the common good. To one there is
given through the Spirit the message of wisdom, to another
the message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, to another
faith by the same Spirit
." (1 Corinthians 12:6-8).
(2) Belief.
Belief and trust, especially in what God has said, implies
the intention to live by what God has commanded.
"Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain
of what we do not see." (Hebrews 11:1).
