The 'Fall of Man' is a theological term for the failure of
our first parents when tested in the Garden of Eden, but this
incident is nowhere referred to as such in the Bible. Adam
and Eve were created "very good" (Genesis 1:31),
but they were not perfect. If they had been created perfect,
they would not have failed when God tested them (see PERFECT).
They failed to be obedient to God, and as a consequence became
subject to death.
"To Adam He [God] said, 'Because you listened to your
wife and ate from the tree about which I commanded you, "You
must not eat of it," Cursed is the ground because of
you
. By the sweat of your brow you will eat your food
until you return to the ground, since from it you were taken;
for dust you are and to dust you will return.'" (Genesis
3:17-19).
