"Let your moderation be known unto all men", exhorts the apostle Paul (Philippians 4:5, KJV).

Because of their faith, Christians should be well-behaved, disciplined and helpful citizens. Elsewhere in the KJV (see 2 Corinthians 10:1; Galatians 5:22) and in the NIV this word is translated 'gentleness'.

Christians are to avoid excesses in any direction, and to make their moderate, reasonable lives a testimony to the gospel which they believe and teach.
