2. A 'household' or family living together

"…as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord." (Joshua 24:15, KJV).

In their teaching the apostles use the house as an illustration, and speak of it figuratively: "You also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house." (1 Peter 2:5).

"You are… fellow citizens with God's people and members of God's household, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone…in him [Jesus Christ] you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by His Spirit." (Ephesians 2:19-22).
