The Lord Jesus Going from Earth to Heaven.
After his crucifixion and resurrection the Lord Jesus Christ
remained for forty days with his disciples, instructing them
and preparing them for the work of taking the gospel message
to the world. Then, one day when they were together on the Mount
of Olives near Jerusalem, without ceremony, he took his leave
of them and ascended in a cloud of glory into heaven. Two angels
who were present then comforted the disciples with the assurance
that Jesus would return (described in Acts 1:1-11).
"After his suffering, he [Jesus] showed himself to these
men and gave many convincing proofs that he was alive. He appeared
to them over a period of forty days and spoke about the kingdom
of God." (Acts 1:3).
"After he said this, he was taken up before their very
eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight. They were looking
intently up into the sky as he was going, when suddenly two
men dressed in white stood beside them. 'Men of Galilee,' they
said, 'why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same
Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back
in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.'" (Acts
1:9-11). |
