The Chief Angel.
Only the angel Michael is referred to by name as an archangel,
meaning first, or chief angel (Jude 9). This is illustrated
by the authority he assumes in the events recorded in Daniel
ch.10. We are told that when Jesus returns he will "come
down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the
archangel and with the trumpet call of God" (1 Thessalonians
4:16).
Jesus himself will command the angelic hosts who are under
his authority to raise the dead and cleanse and restore the
earth. "It [baptism] saves you by the resurrection of
Jesus Christ, who has gone into heaven and is at God's right
hand-with angels, authorities, and powers in submission to
him." (1 Peter 3:21-22).
