A Pagan Nation to the North of Israel.
A kingdom to the north of Israel, with a capital city Damascus.
It features in the history and prophecy of the Old Testament
where Syria is frequently the enemy, but sometimes the ally
of the ten-tribe kingdom of Israel.
"Rezin the king of Syria, and Pekah the son of Remaliah,
king of Israel, went up to Jerusalem to make war against it,
but could not prevail against it." (Isaiah 7:1, KJV).
The NIV and some other modern translations give Syria its
older name of 'Aram'.
