SUN AND MOON
S

The sun is the centre of our system of planets. All revolve around the sun. The sun gives us light and heat without which we could not live.

The Old Testament records that God's servant Joseph saw a vision in which the sun, moon and stars bowed before him. His father Jacob correctly interpreted this to mean that his parents and brothers would one day become dependent upon Joseph, which later proved to be true (see Genesis 37:9-11).

God is referred to as: "The Sun of Righteousness [who] will rise with healing in its wings…" (Malachi 4:2) for those who revere His name. This is a prophecy of the restoration of Israel and those in all the world who respond to God's love.

God is the centre of our spiritual universe, the source of all being. "For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favor and honor; no good thing does He withhold from those whose walk is blameless." (Psalm 84:11).

In his vision of the end of time, John sees that the new heavens and earth no longer need the sun or the moon to shine on them, for "the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp." (Revelation 21:23).

It is difficult for us to imagine, but in the ultimate future, with sin and death completely destroyed, and all human weakness and rebellion at an end, there will be no spiritual darkness for God to illuminate (1 Corinthians 15:24-26). Those who love God will become part of the light, and God will be "all in all." (1 Corinthians 15:28).
