The Making of the Present World.
The Bible teaches that God created the world in seven days
(Genesis 1:31-2:2). This statement is challenged by some scientists
whose researches and thinking have lead them to believe that
the world evolved over a very long period of time. Many or
most of them hold to the theory of 'evolution', which in its
most common form contradicts the Bible account of creation,
and, so the evolutionary scientists claim, casts doubt on
the accuracy and veracity of the book as a whole.
While it must be within the power of an Almighty God to create
anything at will and within any time span, reasonable conclusions
from the earth we live on indicate that the physical universe
has existed and undergone endless changes over millions of
years and that these changes continue. This is not inconsistent
with a God who is in control of creation, nor is it at variance
with the description of the creation given in the early chapters
of Genesis when this is properly understood. Scientists are
repeatedly re-evaluating their findings.
The surface of the earth contains many animal remains, such
as fossils, of creatures that no longer exist, and it is also
reasonable to accept that they are the remains of previous
creations. Evidence produced over the past 150 years for the
long-term evolution of man from lower forms of life is speculative
and in some cases has proved to be unscientific, biased, and
even deliberately fraudulent. Research into animal remains
continues, but it is generally being overtaken in significance
by the much wider investigation into cellular and genetic
structures, and an increasing awareness that the world with
its life forms, is continually being changed by a series of
catastrophes.
A general rejection of the Bible account of creation now prevails,
but it is based on prejudice and apathy rather than acceptable
evidence, while in the scientific world there is a growing
number of scholars and researchers who are finding increasing
evidence for a single act of creation.
God's "new creation"
While creation in the Bible generally refers to the creation
of the physical world, the Bible also refers to the 'new creation',
from which we understand that God has already begun, in Christ,
the re-creation of this world after the present age has come
to an end.
"I will create new heavens and a new earth. The former
things will not be remembered." (Isaiah 65:17).
"'As the new heavens and the new earth that I make will
endure before Me,' declares the Lord, 'so will your name and
descendants endure.'" (Isaiah 66:22).
"Therefore if anyone is in Christ he is a new creation;
the old has gone, the new has come! All this is from God,
who reconciled us to Himself through Christ, and gave us the
ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world
to Himself in Christ, not counting men's sins against them."
(2 Corinthians 5:17-19).
"
that the times of refreshing may come from the
Lord, and that he may send the Christ who has been appointed
for you-even Jesus. He must remain in heaven until the time
comes for God to restore everything, as He promised long ago
through His holy prophets." (Acts 3:19-21).
"But in keeping with His promise we are looking forward
to a new heaven and a new earth, the home of righteousness."
(2 Peter 3:13).
