New Jerusalem.
In Revelation ch.21, there is a beautiful description of 'New
Jerusalem' coming down out of heaven. In figurative language,
it is referred to as 'the Bride-the Lamb's wife'. This is
a prophetic reference to the time when Jesus Christ will be
returned to the earth, and, joined by His faithful followers,
will reign over the world for God. The Lamb's wife is the
congregation of the righteous, drawn from every age and every
part of the world, resurrected and glorified, who will assist
him in maintaining God's reign of peace and righteousness
throughout the earth.
The vision is of the perfect love and authority of God, descending
to the earth and being superimposed on Zion-the city where
God will dwell for ever.
"Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first
heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was
no longer any sea. I saw the Holy City, the New Jerusalem
coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully
dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the
throne saying, 'Now the dwelling of God is with men, and He
will live with them.'" (Revelation 21:1-3).
