When 'ghost' is linked with 'holy' we have 'Holy Ghost', which
is found only in the New Testament. On four occasions in the
KJV it is translated 'Holy Spirit' (for example in Luke 11:13).
The original Greek word is pneuma which is more frequently
translated 'spirit'. Modern versions have 'Holy Spirit' (q.v.)
consistently. Modern versions use 'ghost' for pneuma where
the context refers to an apparition.
The Bible does not support the view that ghosts and spirits
are disembodied 'souls' which leave the body at death and
remain earthbound instead of going to heaven.
