The Capital of God's Kingdom on Earth for All Time.
A small mountain fortress in Israel, which King David captured
and made his capital city (see 2 Samuel 5:7; 1 Chronicles
11:5). His son, King Solomon built a Temple for God on the
adjoining Mount Moriah. Later the whole area became the city
of Jerusalem (q.v.). God has chosen Zion to be His special
city (see Psalm 48; 50:1-12; 87).
When Jesus returns as king, Zion (Jerusalem) will be made
the capital city of the whole world (see Psalm 65:1-4; 99;
102:12-22; 110:1-2; 125:1-2; 126:1-3; Isaiah 2:1-4; 51:1-16;
52; Jeremiah 50:4-6).
"The Lord will roar from Zion and thunder from Jerusalem;
the earth and the sky will tremble. But the Lord will be a
refuge for His people, a stronghold for the people of Israel.
Then you will know that I, the Lord your God, dwell in Zion,
my holy hill. Jerusalem will be holy; never again will foreigners
invade her." (Joel 3:16-17).
"This is what the Lord Almighty says: 'My towns will
again overflow with prosperity, and the Lord will again comfort
Zion and choose Jerusalem.'" (Zechariah 1:17).
